If you have read any of my skincare posts before you will know I have combination skin and that I am always looking for new products to try that are designed for combination skin. I am not a fan of shine at all or a dewy finish, as matte as possible it what I always go for and I love products that help me achieve that perfect matte finish!
For the last few months I have been using the Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion as part of my skincare routine and now it’s time to share my thoughts. I got it from Oriana Salon & Spa after a great fruit acid facial.
I did think initially it was a very small sized bottle for a lotion, I was expecting it to be bigger. However you only need such a small amount of the lotion to cover the face so it lasts for ages. I haven’t even reached anywhere near half way yet and I’ve been using it almost every day for about a month. Also the bottle is quite deceiving as you get 59ml which is actually quite a lot of product compared with your average moisturiser. I really like the design of the bottle, the lotion is slightly runny and the nozzle allows you to control it really well so you are only using as much as you need and not wasting any. I love the texture of the lotion, it is very light and absorbs into the skin very quickly. I have been using this in the mornings as my day time moisturiser - after cleansing and before applying makeup. The lotion contains salicylic acid which combats breakouts by clearing congested follicles and it is anti-inflammatory so it soothes any irritation and redness. It contains microsponges to absorb oil on the skins face which prevents shine and helps maintain an all matte finish.
I definitely noticed a difference from day one of using this. Around half way through the day I normally start to get a shiny t-zone and pat it or apply powder and I haven’t felt I need to do this every day since using this lotion. My skin is also looking really clear at the moment – maybe it’s a coincidence or maybe it’s due to this lotion I’m not 100% sure!
What I am sure of though is that I really like this lotion and will be continuing to use it every day in the morning as it definitely reduces oil and gives a matte finish. what most matter to me is that it reduced the remaining redness from acne and pimps.
Another great thing about this lotion is that it is fragrance-free. If you are sensitive to scents this might be good for you. However, the salicylic acid can potentially irritate very sensitive skin - but I have fairly sensitive skin and didn’t notice any issues.
If you have oily or combination skin I really do recommend this as a daily moisturizer.
